CodeDoor is a network of students, developers and companies which enables underrepresented groups to learn or improve how they code, find a job or start their own firm. CodeDoor’s collaboration with MoBerries is a bilateral commitment from both firms to provide maximum value to both user bases. Can you give us a quick overview of CodeDoor?
CodeDoor is a network of software engineers and companies. In collaboration with leading technology partners, we provide scholarships to underrepresented groups to learn how to code and find a job.
What is the idea behind CodeDoor? How did you come up with it?
CodeDoor started as a private initiative to help refugees learn how to code and find a job. It started in 2015 when a massive influx of refugees entered Germany. Being a developer, Karan started a pilot project in Giessen. Soon, other developers joined and the network has started to flourish.
Who is your target customer?
We are a network built for developers, in particular future developers. Everyone should have access to a value creating high-end education. We ease the access for underrepresented groups to a high-end education & processes.
What are CodeDoor’s vision and mission?
High unemployment amongst youth and young adults from marginalized backgrounds has become a serious problem not only in Germany but worldwide. At the same time, the demand in the Software and IT sector, a pillar of the future economy, is crying out for help as there is an ever growing shortage of skilled software developers.
CodeDoor believes the solution to both these issues is easier access to certified coding courses for those most vulnerable – individuals between the ages of 16-30 years categorized as migrants, refugees, unqualified or unemployed, socially distressed. Like MoBerries, we are about breaking down barriers in order to fulfill the promise of a job market for everyone.
Could you break down how the partnership with MoBerries works?
MoBerries has an incredible network of coders. Many of these coders love to improve their coding skills. This is CodeDoor’s part, we help the developers to improve their skills. It’s a perfect partnership.
How does our product help your team or company achieve its objectives?
MoBerries’ network enriches our network tremendously. They help us address the “what now?” for alumni. After you have completed our certified courses, you can find your next job with MoBerries.
What kind of program are you offering and how does one join the program?
Individuals between 16-30 years that belong to the above mentioned group can apply for a training or scholarship via our application form. We are especially looking for female applicants as they are extremely underrepresented in today’s tech landscape. We started a massive scholarship program, in particular targeted at female coders. How long have you been using our product?
We have known and loved MoBerries since 2016.
How did you come across MoBerries?
We have known the founders of MoBerries since 2016. We met when Karan was analyzing the product and team of MoBerries for a VC. Because we share many of the same values & mission objectives with regards to the labor market, we stayed in touch over the years and have been very motivated to find ways to work together.
How are our companies aligned (mission, strategy, culture, etc.)?
We want people to succeed. The only thing guaranteed is that you have one life and we want you to live the best version of it, irrespective of where you were born or your gender. If you are hungry to progress, make something of yourself and provide for your family, MoBerries and CodeDoor want to support you on your unique journey by equipping you with the tools & access to knowledge necessary to succeed. As the job market is changing so rapidly, we want people to understand that this is not 20 – 30 years ago when you could have one career only. By providing knowledge and a matchmaking tool like MoBerries platform, we want to encourage you to constantly reinvent yourself with the aim of being happy.
How has the MoBerries product impacted you?
We found great candidates for our program. Awesome coders that turn into superstars through our program. It has allowed us to build a pipeline to candidates who are ambitious and want to get the best out of themselves. On the other hand we are able to automatically redistribute our trained talent amongst our shared network by leveraging MoBerries.
What do you think sets MoBerries & their focus on sharing apart?
The team. You might have expected an answer regarding technology. That is a given. What makes MoBerries outstanding is the team behind it. Not many startups in Germany in the job sector have a team so driven and trustworthy as MoBerries does.
