The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it – Robert Swan
The same rings true for our industries. Contrary to what some people may lead you to believe, we are currently living in one of the most exciting eras of history, with industries being disrupted and formed literally as we speak.
However all these bustling changes come at price, as technology advances and new industries centred around tech become more prominent, the ever growing elephant in the room is where will we find the future talent to sustainably support this growth long term.
Berlin’s Tech Startup Ecosystem
Companies in Germany’s traditional sectors are increasingly becoming digital companies. German end-user companies’ demand for tech talent has tripled within the past two years while at the same time noticing a skill shortage for IT specialists and software developers (Bitkom). McKinsey estimates that Berlin startups will generate 100,000 jobs by 2020.
Every third German startup is based in Berlin and there are an estimated 1,800 – 2,400 active tech startups in the city (Startup Genome). The growing Berlin startup scene is mainly due to the hip culture, diversity, inclusivity and affordable living. Over 40% of startup founders are immigrants, placing Berlin second after Silicon Valley.
Berlin’s success is largely due to its ability to attract and retain talented and driven people. As the city is such an attractive place for tech, it is especially important to not only gather talent who is accelerating in the field already, but to empower young and ambitious talent to enter.
This is where MoBerries & Ironhack come in, and why we so strongly believe in our partnership. MoBerries’ guiding principle is to connect the world’s professionals through a transparent job market. The AI-driven hiring platform connects talent with companies through an interactive neural network. Today MoBerries’ partner network consists of over 200+ partner companies exchanging talent on demand.
We have a duty with the ecosystems we are present in to not only help our partner companies and candidates, but also develop long term sustainable methods and partnerships which will help our partners win the war for talent.
MoBerries strongly believes in building out talent pipelines, and after 11 months of extensively searching for a partner which matches our values, standards and objective we are proud to announce this partnership with the world’s leading tech bootcamp.
The idea behind Ironhack’s intensive courses is to change people’s lives, furnishing them with tech skills to transition into a new career and ultimately find a job they love. Their global tech school offers intensive bootcamps in Web Development and Web Design. Courses last 9 weeks, followed by a hiring week. In short, they get students from zero to job-ready in three months.
Ironhack stands out from the rest of the programs being offered by being laser focused on one objective: ensuring their students find a job after graduating. To achieve this, they focus on two key aspects: making students employable, and giving them access to opportunities.
How do they make students employable? For one they are in constant contact with employers, and iterate their curriculum to reflect the latest demands in the market. Ironhack graduates not only learn the latest technologies, they also learn all the necessary tools and processes needed to work as a developer from day one. Ironhack also offers career support throughout the program, prepares students for technical and personal interviews, and offers a wide array of talks and seminars with industry professionals.
Ironhack, like MoBerries, shares the belief that community is everything, and even after a course is over, it’s just the beginning for their candidates. In order to maximize access to opportunities, Ironhack offers a personalized approach to each students aspirations. They help them contact potential employers, and host a hiring week at the end of each cohort where students can interview with potential employers.
The results speak for themselves. An impressive 90% of their students find a job in less than 3 months after finishing the course. Ironhack can already count many global players as hiring partners, such as Google, Indeed, N26 or Rocket Internet and has placed students in the likes of Facebook, Visa, Twitter and many more.
MoBerries and Ironhack share the same mission: Finding people jobs they love and placing them for professional growth. Thus why Ironhack is ideal for partnering up with MoBerries to create even more value for talent. Within this partnership, MoBerries is able to push hiring rates for Ironhack’s students even further. Having a broad network of tech companies itself, MoBerries distributes top tech talent educated by the Ironhack bootcamp to other network partners who are actively seeking new employees. Bootcamp alumni get the chance to constantly be part of a hiring network, in addition to the Hiring Week taking place at the end of Ironhack’s programme.
The partnership aims to decrease skill shortage among Berlin while further providing opportunities for people being attracted in this vibrant city.
Ironhack’s first bootcamp in Berlin will launch on May 21st, followed by a consecutive two cohorts in July and October 2018. For more information on dates and curriculum, you can visit their webpage here.
Ironhack will be hosting a Meetup on the 7th of March in Berlin with the team to give more information on their story and how their 9-week Web Development Bootcamp works. RSVP here!
